The Arsenal star is among six Premier League players forced to take refuge in the dressing room as Ghana fans rioted
Six Premier League stars have been forced to take shelter after Ghanaian fans stormed the pitch and threw projectiles at it.
Ghana was defeated 1-0 by Angola in a African Cup of Nations Qualifying match, with Felicio Milson's goal in added time making the difference.
Home fans at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi were outraged by the defeat.
Some ran onto the field while others threw bottles and other objects into the field below.
According to Ghana Soccernet, 'The crowd kicked everything in sight, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.'
Security immediately herded the players off the pitch and into the confines of the dressing room, including several stars from English football's top flight.
Arsenal Midfielder and captain of Ghana Thomas Partey He was a player who was escorted to safety.
Others included were those from West Ham. Mohamed KudusBrighton defender Tariq Lamptey, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo as well as Leicester City pair Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu.
A report also claimed that Ayew was confronted by a pitch invader during the match and had to be removed from the field by several guards.
Such was the damage done to the pitch that the Ghana National Sports Authority (NSA) announced the venue would be closed for a month for maintenance.
The Confederation of African Football is expected to fine the Ghana Football Association (FA).
The chaos after the Angola match is not the first time a game against Ghana has been marred by post-match problems.
The Ghana FA have been fined £11,350 as a result of angry fans confronting the former boss Chris Hughton after his team lost 2-1 to Cape Verde at the African Cup of Nations in January.
A report claimed that a supporter hurled verbal abuse towards Hughton at the team hotel and that Ghanaian diplomats intervened to calm the situation.
The Ghana Football Association was also fined £7,614 ($10,000) in 2019 when an unruly fan invaded the pitch during an AFCON qualifier between Ghana and South Africa.
