Real Sociedade could part ways with several key players during the summer. The departure of Robin Le Normand is already assured, and he will go to Atletico Madrid once Euro 2024 is over. Mikel Merino could join him, with club bosses resigned to losing the 28-year-old midfielder, whose contract expires in 2025.
The good news for La Real and their supporters is that Martin Zubimendi is not going anywhere. The pivot, who is also with Spain at Euro 2024, has been linked with several clubs in recent months, including Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, he told El Diario Vasco (via ED) that he does not plan to play for anyone except La Real, even if his release clause of 60 million euros is activated.
“Where am I going to play next season? I'm going to be at Real society. I have a contract with Real Sociedad and that's where I'm most comfortable.”
Zubimendi has reaffirmed his desire at La Real on several occasions, and it is good news for them that he is so committed – especially given that his €60m release clause is rather enticing. He should be a key player going forward, and even so if midfield partner Merino leaves.
