Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto decided to leave the club after almost two decades, having joined the club as a teenager. The 32-year-old is out of contract, and Barcelona had informed that there was still a chance that he could sign a new agreement, but he gave up waiting for the Blaugrana.
Roberto had agreed to an extension in May, but the exit of Xavi Hernandez put the deal on hold, and Barcelona had told him that if there was room in their salary cap, they would sign him. However, they do not guarantee him a place in the side. Ace for MD, Roberto has decided to stop waiting for the Blaugrana, and instead seek pastures new, with an offer from the Premier League at the top of his priority list. Sevilla, Valencia and Girona have all called him, but he is more interested in a move abroad.
If this is the end for Roberto at Barcelona, then it has been a long and successful one at the club. Making his debut under Pep Guardiola, Roberto made 375 appearances, 19 goals and 43 assists, and was also the author of one of the most famous goals in Barcelona history, completing La Remuntada against Paris Saint- Germain.
