'The biggest frauds': Noel Gallagher criticizes Tottenham and reacts to Man City's 'cliff edge' decline
Noel Gallagher mocked Tottenham as “frauds” despite Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of champions Manchester City.
a double of James Maddison and goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson saw Spurs continue their incredible record against the Premier League champions with a convincing victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Was Tottenham's sixth victory in their last 13 games against Pep Guardiola's men, a record that few can boast in an era of city of manchester domain.
Gallagher, a lifelong City supporter, admits the last thing his team needed was a meeting with Spurs amid their poor form.
City came into Saturday's clash on the back of four straight defeats and a glut of injuries to key players, and the visit of Ange Postecoglou would not have been top of the list for City fans.
“Everything seems to have fallen apart, but if we hadn't won four leagues in a row I'd be worried,” Gallagher said.
“This is an inevitable drop of perhaps five or ten per cent and on Saturday the only team we don't want to play against as City fans after four defeats in a row is Tottenham at home.
“They do it to us every time they come there, they are the biggest frauds in the football league.
“They will be hit by Fulham On the weekend there is no problem. But they always appear for us.
“I didn't expect to win that game, I certainly didn't expect to lose, but 4-0 was a surprise.”
The Oasis star continued: “Last season when we played Villa it was a terrible performance. You are defeated by the best team and you raise your hands.
“Being defeated by the best team five games in a row is incredible.
“Pep, as we know, says one thing to the camera and another to the players in the locker room.
“I'd be very interested to see what the atmosphere is like.”
While Gallagher admits injuries and loss of form are hampering the reigning Premier League champions, an over-reliance on the star striker Erling Haaland is proving counterproductive after the summer sale of Julián Álvarez.
“Haaland being your only source of goals, you're really asking for it,” Gallagher added. “I know it will be difficult to buy a striker who knows he will play second fiddle to Haaland.
“We've always had an Alvarez or a (Riyad) Mahrez contributing and Phil (Foden) last season.”
Despite City's struggles, Gallagher revealed that the atmosphere around the Etihad remains positive despite enduring the longest losing streak during Guardiola's tenure, which has seen City fall to within eight points of the leaders. Liverpool ahead of Sunday's trip to Anfield.
“I can assure you that the atmosphere in the stands is that everyone is rooting for the team,” he said.
“It's just that we've hit a wall right now and they're going to have to get over it.”
“The players have lost form and the players who are there to replace the players who have lost form are injured.
“It's one of those things we have to endure and overcome.”
