The forgotten star on loan from Brighton has a better goal ratio than Harry Kane and is set to 'lead the line' for Germany at Euro 2024
Denis Undav, on loan from Brighton, could start for Germany at Euro 2024 after his excellent season, according to Andy Brassell.
The 27-year-old completed a loan from the seagulls and in summer to Stuttgart of the Bundesliga.
Undav scored eight goals in 30 appearances for Brighton last season but has gone a step further back in his home country.
Stuttgart The star has scored 14 goals and provided a further five assists in 19 appearances in all competitions this season.
He is the fourth top scorer in the Bundesliga (13), but is still 11 behind leader Harry Kane (24).
However, Undav has a better goals per 90 rate (1.03) than Kane (1.22).
His efforts have helped the club fight for a top-four finish in the Bundesliga after battling relegation last season.
As a result, European football journalist Brassell told talkSPORT what a key role he could play in Euro 2024 this summer for Germany.
“In third place is Stuttgart, who beat Freiburg 3-1 at the weekend,” he said on Hawksbee and Jacobs on Monday afternoon.
“His player on loan at Brighton, Denis Undav, of course, Roberto De Zerbi was a little bit reluctant to let him out, but he did, 13 goals in 12 starts in the Bundesliga so far this season.
“He scored and gave two assists (against Freiburg), I think he will lead Germany's line at Euro 2024, he could be one of the stars of the tournament.”
Undav is yet to make an international appearance for Germany, but this could certainly change if his good form for Stuttgart continues.
He missed the first three Bundesliga games this season while recovering from a torn ligament, but helped off the bench on his debut in the 3-1 win at Mainz.
The striker scored his first goal for Stuttgart at the end of September, when he scored twice in a 2-0 win against Cologne.
Undav has only added to his tally since then, even scoring a hat-trick against RB Leipzig last month.
With stiff competition for places at Brighton, a loan move to the Bundesliga could prove fruitful for his international career as Germany chases its fourth title. Euro title this summer.
Joao Pedro has been a huge success for the Seagulls this season, having scored 19 goals in all competitions, with Evan Ferguson and Danny Welbeck also scoring.
