It has been a busy week in the headlines for the former Real Madrid defenders, after Roberto Carlos came out to deny that he had slept at their Valdebebas training ground. Now ex-player Fabio Coentrau made headlines.
According to Jornal do Noticias (via Relief), Fabio Coentrao was pulled over by maritime trade officials in Porto, after being discovered with more than a ton of illegal seafood. Seven months ago, Coentrao set up a fishing business, but he has yet to obtain the relevant licenses to sell the seafood.
Coentrao had 1,020 tons of langoustines in seawater in a port store, 760kg of which had no proper documentation. Jose Mourinho's former signing was forced to release 760kg into the sea, while inspectors looked at the remaining 260kg, which will either be destroyed or donated to a charity.
The former Portugal international retired in 2021 at the age of 33, after a spell at Rio Ave in Portugal. Coentrao spent seven years at Real Madrid in total, although most of the latter half was spent on borrowing. During his time he won two La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.
