Carla Ward addressed the media from Bodymoor Heath on Thursday morning.

Aston Villa Women’s manager faced questions from journalists ahead of her team’s Barclays WSL fixture against Everton.

Here’s what she had to say…

On team news…

“Daphne [van Domselaar]’s out, Lucy Stan[iforth]’s out, Lucy Parker’s out, Kirsty Hanson’s out. I won’t comment on the doubts but they’re the ones that are definitely out. Daphne’s [injury] is her hip. Kirsty Hanson, calf. We have got a couple of doubts but we’ll be assessing them today.”

On Everton…

“I’ve said it since Brian [Sørensen] went in there, he plays a style of football that I like. He likes to get the ball down on the floor and play. We know they’re a good side but he tinkers with different ideas, different systems. You’ve got to prepare in various ways, but while they have strengths we’ve got to focus on ours. We’ve been hurting after the last two performances and the one thing I can say is that the players are hungry, they’re fighting. That’s a reflection of how they want to put things right. Everton are a good side but we’ve got to focus on our strengths.”

On preparing for a team that tinkers so much…

“If you look at both sides, both have injuries and big players missing. I can’t imagine anyone will be able to predict either starting lineup.”

On the opportunity for points…

“We were in a good place before that Liverpool game. That game and the first half, in particular, against Arsenal hurt us. We need to go there and get points back, and if we do we’re still in touching distance of that top six. If we don’t, we’ll be looking down the barrel.”
