- Aston Villa Women Vs. Liverpool Ladies – Sun, Mar 3rd 2024, 14:00
Liverpool’s visit to Poundland Bescot Stadium was on the agenda for Carla as she gave her pre-match press conference on Friday.
Aston Villa Women’s manager discussed a range of topics as she addressed the media from Bodymoor Heath.
Here’s what she had to say…
On filling the absence of Adriana Leon…
“She’s done really well in any position she’s played in. She’s a massive loss, of course. You can see she’s flying for Canada, she’s in good form. Naturally, we’ll miss that. But we’ve got players that can step in, we’ve got players that can play in the nine. It’s another opportunity for somebody else. We’ll be ready. No matter what we’ve got available, we’ll make the best of it.”
On Liverpool…
“[Matt Beard]’s done a wonderful job. He’s got them playing some of the best football they have in a long time. They’re resolute, they’re organized. I’ve got a lot of admiration for Matt as a manager and a person. I’ve got a good relationship with him off the pitch as I have on the pitch. For 90 minutes we won’t be friends, I’m sure. The job he’s done is outstanding. He’s one of the most experienced in the division, he knows it like the back of his hand. Liverpool are where they are because they’ve got a lot of quality and they deserve to be where they are so it’s going to be a tough afternoon.”
On targeting the top six…
“No one gave us a chance after five games. All of a sudden, we’re in touching distance. We’re also just a couple of defeats away from being in the mix at the bottom. Our feet are firmly on the ground, we know where we want to get to. The group are hungry to silence some of the noise. The group want top six and that’s what we’re going to go after. After this weekend, three points would go a long way to achieving that.”
On Rachel Daly…
“She looked hungry. You could tell she has the bit between her teeth. She’ll be ready to get back in against Arsenal. She’s got one more game to see out, but she’ll be ready. She’s a pro, she’s been working unbelievably hard. She took her two goals really well over the international break but we’ll be delighted to get her back and ready for Wednesday.”
