- Aston Villa Women Vs. Manchester City Women – Sat, May 18th 2024, 15:00
Carla Ward spoke to the media from Bodymoor Heath on Thursday morning.
Aston Villa Women’s manager was quizzed on how she’ll prepare her players for Saturday’s game against Manchester City and the threats they’ll face at Villa Park.
Here’s what she had to say…
On what would be the perfect send-off…
“Three points. We like playing against Manchester City, we’ve had good games against them. They’re a team that play in a way I love, but we want to win the game. It’s as simple as that. I couldn’t care less about what goes on elsewhere, I care about trying to get maximum points.”
On being written off…
“My take is that [Manchester City] have to try and win by four goals. I’ve been asked if we’re going to park the bus and my response has been ‘Have we ever parked the bus?’ No, we haven’t. We’ve always played in a certain way against City and it’s been enjoyable. I want to go out on a high and I want to go out and attack the game. That’s what we’ll do.”
On how much she has grown in her time at Villa…
“Massive amounts. The club’s allowed me to grow. It has some wonderful people here. I’ve really enjoyed it and I’ve made friends for life. It is a proper family club and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
On where she is leaving the club…
“I think I’m leaving the club, the squad in a really good position for someone to pick up this project and take it further. I think whoever comes in has a wonderful squad. This will be the first pre-season where the majority will be in, which is an unknown. I think it’s a really good opportunity for someone to come in, pick it up and put their stamp on it.”
