Real Madrid have been forced to make substitutions after missing out on Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro and are once again shaking up the game for top young defenders. One of them that has often been linked with Los Blancos is Victor Reyes.
The 18-year-old Brazilian is just coming into the professional game, but Real Madrid have a history with recruiting Brazilian talent, usually at the same age as Reis. AS Diary they say he won't be allowed to leave for less than €22m, but given the price of some of the young defenders – Yoro could cost United more than €60m – it seems like a relative bargain.
The newspaper based in Madrid also spoke to the defender about the interest of Los Blancos.
“Today my thoughts are completely on Palmeiras, to make my history in the club. I try to think day by day, I am still very young and I have just started my professional career. I want to win titles with Palmeiras and consolidate myself” .
Reis explained that he admires Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, players that he sees a bit of himself, while his long-term goal is to reach the Brazilian national team. He was also asked about his main virtues.
“I believe that we must always work to improve in all aspects. With time and experience, it is natural that we can evolve. I have a style of play that contributes to playing the ball out of the back, a good height for the head of the ball and also the question of leadership that has accompanied me since I was young in the lower categories. I think the mental aspect also helps a lot and it is something that has evolved in the last months.”
Reis has a release clause of 100 million euros in his contract, and as O Verdao showed with Endrick Felipe and Estevao Willian, they can be interested in large transfer fees. If Real Madrid decide he is the one, the Blancos will be backing themselves to beat the competition, with Yoro the only recent cut on their book.
