Real Madrid still have several players at the ongoing European Championship in Germany, which reaches its quarter-final stage on Friday. One of the few players yet to start a game is Eduardo Camavinga – the 21-year-old has also only appeared in two of France's four matches so far.
It hasn't been an easy tournament for Camavinga, although he could get his chance to make his mark on Friday when France play Portugal. Adrien Rabiot is suspended, which opens up a starting spot in Didier Deschamps' midfield.
Ace for MD, Camavinga is one of three options to replace Rabiot, with the others being Youssouf Fofana and Ousmane Dembele (Antoine Griezmann moves to the center in this case). Guy Stephan, Deschamps' assistant, discussed the possibility of Camavinga starting against Portugal.
“Camavinga is a left-footed midfielder, he likes to occupy spaces and participate in the game. He is very, very active with the ball, he protects the ball very well. He is able to play from zone to zone, to play forward, to get the ball back. It's very complete.”
The fact that Camavinga – like Rabiot – is left-footed could end up working in his favour. We will know on Friday night if the Real Madrid star is counted for France against Portugal.
