Goalkeeper of Real Madrid Andriy Lunin has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, as he will return to a secondary role with Thibaut Courtois returning to full fitness. However, there has been little movement in the last two months in this regard.

Los Blancos had agreed a long-term contract extension with Lunin before the end of the season, but when it came to signing the deal, Real Madrid they were greeted with radio silence. It was reported that Real Madrid would be willing to part with him for around 20-25 million euros, but no offer was made.

He is not the only goalkeeper to be left without an obvious destination, but with Jorge Mendes as an agent, it surprised some that Lunin did not have any offers. Sport now report that part of the reason is that Lunin has decided to throw out his contract, which expires that summer.

That will allow Lunin to figure out his future freely from January onwards, and likely receive a significant salary increase as a free agent. The 25-year-old was very impressive during Real Madrid's campaign last year, but he has little chance of beating Courtois to the top spot. However, he was eliminated by Ukraine at Euro 2024 after a mistake, which will undoubtedly have damaged his value.
