Real Madrid striker Iker Bravo he was assaulted last night while leaving an under 19 match. It is not believed he suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.
Bravo, 19, was involved in Real Madrid's Juvenil A team's 4-2 win over Rayo Majadahonda, during which he was often called a “clown” among other insults from the stands. Relief say that this is a regular case for Bravo on trips away from Valdebebas.
However the abuse continued for Bravo after the match on this occasion. After the game, as Bravo and his teammates made their way to the team bus, an unnamed individual mugged the former Barcelona striker. Members of Alvaro Arbeloa's staff intervened to prevent things from going any further. It is not yet clear if the perpetrator has been identified or if charges will be pressed.
This is just another incident where players and professionals are exposed to safety risks due to bad fan behavior in lower league and grassroots football. Last year, a referee was beaten after an under-18 match in Ceuta, and had to be taken to hospital, while a few weeks ago, Lucas Ocampos was the victim of unfortunate behavior by a young fan in Vallecas.
