Thomas Müller set to make Bayern Munich history

Bayern Munich are set to kick off their Bundesliga campaign later today away at Wolfsburg, as they look to match their league rivals of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig by gaining three points on the opening day.

While many eyes will be on Vincent Kompany as he takes charge of his first league game as Bayern’s head coach, history could be made by Bayern’s longest-serving players.

Should Thomas Müller feature for Der Rekordmeister against Wolfsburg, then the 34-year-old would have made his 709th appearance in a Bayern shirt in all competitions.

This would see the former German international match the record currently held by Sepp Maier.

Nevertheless, it is expected that Müller will soon surpass the Bayern and Germany legend, making the record his own.

However, as well as this, it would also be Müller’s 474th Bundesliga appearance, which would subsequently see the 34-year-old become the club’s leading appearance holder in Germany’s top tier.
