It has been a dismal two weeks for Bayern Munich. Defeat to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie has been sandwiched between two losses in the Bundesliga, leaving them eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the Meisterschale.
This has, therefore, put a considerable amount of pressure on Thomas Tuchel, with the majority of supporters wanting the 50-year-old to leave the club. However, the Bayern board are willing to give Tuchel until the end of the season to turn their fortunes around.
This is mainly due to the fact that there are few candidates available who can immediately step in and transform the performances, with those in Bavaria questioning the ability of Hansi Flick. Nonetheless, there is also doubt surrounding the capabilities of the squad that has been assembled.
As reported by The Athletic, internally, there is talk about whether there are too many big-name, well-paid players who have lost their hunger to succeed with the club. This is why the record champions are looking to assess their options between now and the end of the season to identify how they could begin to overhaul the squad.
Nevertheless, Tuchel does still have a role to play in this. The relationships he and his coaches have developed with the players are said to have taken a drastic turn, as highlighted by Joshua Kimmich’s argument with Zsolt Lőw after the defeat to VfL Bochum on Sunday.
As well as this, the former Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea head coach has been unable to inspire his players, who are low on confidence due to their recent results. Regardless, Tuchel has taken the majority of the blame for Bayern’s results.
There is a squad of players who should be performing at a significantly better level than they are, and they need to accept responsibility. This summer will undoubtedly be one of the most important in the history of Bayern Munich.
