As reported via Bild, Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel wanted to sell star midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the summer transfer window.
As recently reported, Tuchel’s time is up in Bavaria, with Der Rekordmeister sitting eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race. Those in power at Bayern have lost confidence in the former Chelsea, PSG, and Borussia Dortmund head coach, and while he may remain in charge until the summer, a new face will be in the Allianz Arena dugout next season.
Regardless, the Bayern faithful will be hoping that whoever succeeds Tuchel is able to rekindle the spirit that has undeniably broken in the dressing room. Kimmich and Goretzka are just two of the names to have fallen out with Tuchel this season, and if the head coach had his way, then they would have both departed.
It is understood that during the summer, Tuchel approached Uli Hoeneß, Herbert Hainer, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and suggested that both Kimmich and Goretzka should leave the club. This was to free up space in the midfield, forcing the record champions to sign a number six.
Nevertheless, the Bayern bosses refused to allow their midfield duo to leave, and despite Fulham’s João Palhinha nearly signing on deadline day, Tuchel’s desire to sign a number six did not come to fruition. With Tuchel now departing the club at the end of the campaign, it appears that those in charge will be able to persuade Kimmich and Goretzka to remain at the club.
However, their confidence has been significantly knocked this season, which their performances have reflected. But next season offers a fresh start for both, and hopefully, a positive run with Germany at EURO 2024 will be the catalyst for change.
