With just one win in the entire campaign, the south coast side, rooted at the bottom of the table, look destined for an immediate return to the Championship.

Scheckterwho worked at St Mary's as a player/team liaison officer between October 2014 and February 2018, attended the defeat to the Bees with his mother Clare.

Hugo, whose father Jody is the only one from Africa Formula 1 world champion, enjoyed a matchday hospitality experience with his mother.

Part of the experience included guessing the correct score, and the winner received a prize from a player after the final whistle.

And Clare, who Hugo joked “doesn't know anything about football” in his unknown post, he correctly predicted that Thomas Frank's team would win 5-0.

Her son filmed her joyful reaction after being told she was the winner, where she celebrated by pumping her fists in the air, before holding up a Saints scarf on her way to receive a jersey from forward Adam Armstrong.

As she headed to meet the former Newcastle man, Hugo playfully booed her, and other fans joined in the joyous theatrics, while some even applauded.

Hugo, who previously worked for Brentford between December 2022 and January 2024, first as interim director of player care and welfare before becoming a football consultant, shared what he thought was an innocent clip on social media.

But the comments were soon flooded with negative and nasty messages from angry Southampton fans, leading to Scheckter – founder of The Player Care Group – to publish a follow-up post.

He said: “Some clarifications, as I'm getting some negativity (as well as some threats of violence, which is crazy).

“I posted a video of my mother celebrating after randomly guessing a result in a competition organized by the club.

“My mother picked a score at random, she doesn't follow football and could have easily picked the Saints' 5-0 win.

“I have no animosity towards Southampton, nor am I a fan – I spent three and a half wonderful years at the club, but I worked at both clubs in yesterday's game and that's why I was truly neutral.

“I don't know Adam and he wasn't the focus of the post. If my mother hadn't won the competition, it's not something I would have filmed.

“I started booing when my mother won a prize for predicting that the home team would lose.

“The abusive comments from Saints fans blaming me or my family for this result do not reflect the warm and friendly fan base I met when I was at the club.
