- Sheffield United Vs. Aston Villa – Sat, Feb 3rd 2024, 17:30
Youri Tielemans spoke of Aston Villa’s strong desire to bounce back from defeat against Newcastle United as they brushed aside Sheffield United 5-0 at Bramall Lane.
The visitors flew out of the blocks in South Yorkshire and were four goals to the good with just 30 minutes on the clock – John McGinn, Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Tielemans finding the net.
Álex Moreno then added a fifth early in the second half to provide the perfect response to our 3-1 home defeat to the Magpies earlier in the week.
“It was very good,” Tielemans told VillaTV.
“We’ve come from a defeat at home and we really wanted to get a good result here, and to bounce back after Tuesday night. We did that.
“We had a really good game, a good result, so we can keep going from here.”
Asked about the first half, Tielemans said: “It was very enjoyable.
“We scored four goals by half-time and we just wanted to keep going in the second half, keep improving as a team and keep attacking.
“That’s what we did. We scored the fifth goal straightaway. We tried to get some more but they didn’t come unfortunately.”
Villa have now responded with victory immediately after each of the club’s seven defeats this season, with Tielemans hailing the “big character in the dressing room”.
And he was also delighted to bag his first league goal for the Villans after previously netting in the Europa Conference League.
It came via a superb strike off the underside of the crossbar, a minute after seeing his previous effort cleared off the line.
“I’m happy with my first Premier League goal for the club, hopefully I can keep going in this form,” he said.
“It did (nearly come moments earlier). I was very unfortunate with the strike, but I got it.”
