- Young Boys Vs. Aston Villa – Tue, Sep 17th 2024, 17:45
Player of the Match Youri Tielemans cut a delighted figure after Aston Villa’s 3-0 triumph over BSC Young Boys.
The midfielder was superb at Stadion Wankdorf as impressive Villa celebrated their UEFA Champions League bow with a memorable 3-0 triumph in Bern.
It was the perfect way to mark the club’s first outing back among Europe’s elite for 41 years.
Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana were also on target, while Ollie Watkins and Jhon Durán saw efforts ruled out by VAR, and Unai Emery’s side kept a clean sheet at the other end.
“It feels really good, said Tielemans, speaking post-match.
“For our first match, it’s amazing.
“We can enjoy this and focus on the next game now.”
He added: “This was a good performance from myself, from the team, so we can move forward.”
Villa now head into Saturday’s Premier League encounter against midlands neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Next up in Europe is the visit of German giants Bayern Munich to Villa Park in early October.
Villa have claimed three points from the opening match of their league phase, with a further seven eagerly-awaited ties to come.
And asked how he feels about facing the Bavarian outfit, Belgium international Tielemans said: “Very excited.
“Every game is going to be really tough; this new format makes it even tougher because everything is going to be really important.
“It’s going to go down to the details in the end after the eight games.
“So, it’s going to be up to us to impose our game, and we’ll see after our analysis how we can manage that.”
