Over the past few weeks, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz have been headline news for a number of varying reasons.
While it has been heavily reported that Bayern Munich are planning to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 in order to reunite ‘Wusiala’ at club level, there is still no guarantee that Musiala will remain in Bavaria.
The 21-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2026, and with interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City, there is still no certainty that the midfielder agrees to a new deal with the record champions.
However, as well as this, there have been discussions surrounding who out of the pair is the better player, with some pundits suggesting that Der Rekordmeister would be better off selling Musiala in favour of Wirtz.
Regardless, so far this season, both have impressed at club and international level, leaving Toni Kroos to emphasise the importance and quality of both players on the Einfach Mal Luppen podcast (via @iMiaSanMia).
“These are two players we’ve longed for in Germany for years. Players who can turn a harmless situation into a dangerous one all by themselves. They will have to carry us in the next few years and win games. Both can play in tight spaces and assist goals, but they also score goals themselves. Both can create their own dangerous actions. They differ in nuances in terms of quality, but all at the highest level.”
“Flo is a bit more straightforward, who keeps his head up in the last situation. For Jamal, a 1v2 is like a 1v1 for others. If Germany wants to win titles in the future, then it will always need good tournaments from Wirtz and Musiala in the next few years.”
There is no debate surrounding the importance of Musiala and Wirtz for the German national team, but should the pair find themselves in a Bayern shirt next season, could Der Rekordmeister become a relentless winning force once again?
