Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering signing LOSC Lille star Angel Gomes next year, according to HablarSPORT.
After passing through Manchester UnitedWorking in the club's youth system, the 24-year-old opted to leave Old Trafford after finding it difficult to break into the starting XI.
So, after running out of his contract with the Red Devils, he decided to sign for Les Dogues as a free agent in 2020. After moving to the Stade Pierre Mauroy, the midfielder has managed to flourish his career in recent times and was even selected to play for England in the Nations League this international break.
Gomes was used as a second-half substitute against Ireland last week before playing a full match against Finland earlier this week and put in an excellent performance.
Now, HablarSPORT claims that, having been impressed by Gomes' performances for England in recent games, Tottenham have expressed interest in signing him and are now planning to make a bid to sign him next year.
Gomes to Tottenham
The midfielder, valued at around £21m by Transfer marketHe has entered the final year of his current contract and if he does not extend his contract with Lille in the coming months, Spurs can secure his signature on a pre-contract agreement in January to sign him as a free agent next summer.
The Englishman is a versatile player, as he can play in any position in midfield, but he usually plays as an attacking midfielder. He is comfortable in possession and can play with passes between the lines. In addition, he has a good eye for long-distance passes and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
The Lilywhites tend to like signing young talents and have recently signed Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert. Therefore, Gomes would be an ideal signing that Spurs tend to make.
Following the departures of Oliver Skipp, Giovani Lo Celso and Piere-Emile Hojbejrg, Spurs have room to add more reinforcements in the engine room and the Lille star would be an excellent acquisition if signed.
However, it will be interesting to see whether the north London club ultimately opt to make a concrete approach to sign him if he becomes a free agent next summer.
