Former defender Alan Hutton has urged Tottenham Hotspur will sign Chelsea Star Conor Gallagher before the end of this window.

The Lilywhites initially looked like they wanted to bolster their midfield by signing the Chelsea star, having been heavily linked with a move to Spurs. However, they did not formalise their interest in him and instead decided to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United for a £40m deal.

Meanwhile, Gallagher was close to signing for Atletico Madrid, but now the deal is at risk of falling through. Insider information about footballHutton has said that Tottenham will closely monitor the midfielder's situation and that Chelsea are open to letting him leave and could look to sign him before the deadline if his move to Los Rojiblancos ultimately does not go through.

The former defender also claims that Gallagher will definitely start for Spurs if he joins and could replace Piere-Emile Hojbejrg, who joined from Olympique Marseille.

Gallagher to Tottenham

He said:

“I think they'll keep a close eye on him. I think Gallagher comes into that team and he'll probably start. Bissouma, I wasn't so sure about him last season, he did very well at times and we've seen he's capable, but can they bring in someone who offers a bit more?

“Hojbjerg has left so there is the option to try and sign someone. I am pretty sure they will keep a close eye on him and see how this all plays out over the next few weeks. It seems that Gallagher might not be in Chelsea’s plans for the future so there could be a deal and that is something I think Daniel Levy would like.”

Atletico Madrid agreed to a 34 million pounds agreement with Chelsea to sign Gallagher so that Spurs can buy him for a reasonable price if they make a concrete approach in the coming days.

Gallagher is an energetic midfielder and could be an ideal option to play in Ange Postecoglou's high pressing system. Therefore, he could be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham if they sign him.
