Tottenham Hotspur could try to sign Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey this summer, according to the transfer well-informed person Dean Jones.
After coming through the Villans' youth system, the 22-year-old has managed to establish himself as a regular starter for his boyhood club in recent times. However, his playing time has been reduced this season due to injury issues.
But, despite his recent physical problems, it seems that the Lilywhites have been impressed by his performance and have shown a strong interest in signing him.
speaking in FC Ultras Qualifications Podcast, jones has reported that Tottenham will look to sign a new midfielder this summer and are likely to focus on signing local stars. Then, the journalist claims that Ramsey is on the Lilywhites' radar and that they could make a concrete approach to buy him.
However, jones claims that along with the Aston Villa star, Tottenham are also interested in signing Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher, so it will be interesting to see if any of them end up at the newly refurbished White Hart Lane this summer.
Ramsey to Tottenham
Jones said:
“Tottenham will try to sign a midfielder. They want players from the quarry, they have to focus on the players from the quarry, that's what they told me recently. “There is a certain profile of player, so you see people like Jacob Ramsey and Conor Gallagher, these types of players linked with Tottenham.”
It was previously reported that Aston Villa's summer transfer budget has been restricted due to FFP rules, so they need to cash in on some stars to raise funds and add new faces this summer. So, Tottenham could manage to buy Ramsey if they formalized their interest.
The 22-year-old is a versatile player as he is comfortable playing in the midfield three position or can play in the number ten position. Furthermore, he can also play a left-wing role.
Ramsey: valued at around £36 million per Transfer market – is a talented player and has already shown flashes of his qualities in the first division in recent times. Therefore, he could be a shrewd signing for Tottenham if they buy him.
However, it will be interesting to see if the north London club ultimately opt to secure his signature in the next window to strengthen their engine room.
