Guardiola signed a two year extension stay in City on Thursday to end speculation about his future.
The Spaniard's new contract will also extend his time at Etihad to more than a decade once it expires in 2027.
City's game against Tottenham on Saturday provided the perfect opportunity for Guardiola to cap off the week in style.
However, Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham team evidently did not read the script.
James Maddison hit twice in the space of seven minutes in the first half before peter Porro scored a third early in the second half to put Tottenham on track for victory.
Brennan Johnson put the icing on the cake in the 93rd minute when he tipped in a Timo Werner cross to complete the four-goal rout.
The result left the city's faithful in stunned silence as they could not believe what was happening before their eyes.
As for the traveling Tottenham fans, they couldn't help but jeer when Guardiola became the target of their ridicule.
In fact, Tottenham fans were heard chanting at Guardiola: “You'll be fired in the morning.”
Given that Guardiola has just signed his new contract, it is safe to say that the City board will not heed the call of Tottenham fans.
However, the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham marked the first time Guardiola had lost three Premier League games in a row.
It was also City's fifth consecutive defeat, the most consecutive defeats Guardiola has ever overseen during his managerial career.
If the record losing streak wasn't enough, Tottenham's 4-0 rout was the heaviest defeat Guardiola has suffered at home during his time at City.
As for Postecoglou, it was the second time in the space of a month that he had outwitted Guardiola after Tottenham knocked City out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win on October 30.
Luckily for City, the defeat against Tottenham did not displace them from second place, as they remain on 23 points.

Guardiola and his City team have shown several times that they can overcome serious points deficits in the past.
But with his star midfielder Rodri out for most of the season and other key players in and out of the emergency room, Guardiola will have his work cut out for him if he is to lead City to an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League crown.
