Tottenham in talks to sign Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held initial talks with Genoa over a deal to sign Albert Gudmundsson this summer, according to the Italian outlet. La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Lilywhites apparently want to strengthen their front line by signing a new striker in the next window as they have been linked with a number of names in recent times.
Santiago Gimenez, Ivan Toney and Serhou Guirassy have all been suggested as serious targets for the north London club, with Gudmundsson now emerging as a key new option.
According to the report of La Gazzetta dello SportGudmundsson is expected to leave Genoa before next season as he has attracted a lot of attention from several big clubs in Europe, with Tottenham showing interest.
The report further claims that Spurs have already held talks with the Italian club to find out the details of his signing before making a possible summer deal.
Gudmundsson to Tottenham
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Genoa could demand a fee of around £26m to sell their star man so Tottenham can buy the striker for an affordable price.
However, the report says that Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in signing him with the Nerazzurri desperate to secure his service. The north London club will therefore face fierce competition from the Serie A giants to secure any potential deal for him.
Spurs recently signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa, so the Lilywhites may have a good relationship with the Seire A team, which could help them seal this deal if they formalize their interest.
Gudmundsson has been in the spotlight of late having enjoyed a promising campaign this season, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists in 27 league appearances.
The Icelandic international is a versatile player as he can play anywhere on the front line. He possesses the necessary qualities to play in Ange Postecoglou's high-pressure system, so he could be a shrewd signing for Tottenham if they buy him.
However, it will be interesting to see if the north London club ultimately opt to take a concrete approach to acquiring the 26-year-old's service ahead of next season.
