Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing AS Roma star Tammy Abraham this summer, according to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera via SportWitness.
After appointing Ange Postecoglou as new coach ahead of last season, the Lilywhites enjoyed a stellar start last season but ultimately finished fifth in the first division and as a result, they could not qualify for the Champions League next season.
Postecoglou previously expressed his desire to fight for big prizes with the Spurs in the future, so he is interested in strengthening the team in this transfer window.
The Australian coach is said to be keen to sign a new defender and midfielder, but signing a new striker is also on his agenda. After letting Harry Kane leave the club last summer, Spurs decided to keep faith in Son Heung-Min and Richarlison to fill the Englishman's void.
However, while the South Korean seemed more comfortable playing on the left flank, the Brazilian struggled with injuries last season, so it appears that Postecoglou has now decided to sign a more proven striker to strengthen the team. Ivan Toney has been suggested as the top target, but Abraham is apparently on his wish list as well.
Abraham to Tottenham
By quoting and translating the printed version of Corriere della SeraSport Witness has reported that Tottenham are interested in signing the Roma star and that the player is open to returning to England this summer.
The report further claims that Roma are keen to cash in on their star man and want a fee of around £26million. Thus, it seems that Tottenham could sign the Englishman if they formalize their interest.
After passing through the Chelsea youth team, the Englishman showed flashes of his qualities to the Blues before moving to Roma in 2021.
Upon joining the Giallorossi, he enjoyed a promising debut campaign, but was unable to repeat the same performance in the following season before being sidelined for most of last season due to a serious knee injury.
Abraham is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Tottenham to strengthen their front line if they buy him. However, the striker hasn't been at his best lately, so he would be a great bet for Spurs if they decide to sign him this summer.
