Tottenham makes the first signing of the summer by extending the loan of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig
Timo Werner will remain at Tottenham next season after the club announced an extension to his loan deal with RB Leipzig.
The German joined Spurs on an initial loan in January from the Bundesliga team for the second half of the season.
Brought in to cover Heung-min Son, the former Chelsea striker contributed two goals and three assists in 13 Premier League appearances.
Ange Postecoglou's team had the option to sign Werner permanently for around £15 million, an amount they have not accepted.
but a Spurs statement has confirmed that he will spend the 2024/25 season with the north London giants.
And just like their previous deal, they will have another option to complete a permanent move next summer.
BBC sport They have reported that they can do it for £8.5 million.
In the video announced by Spurs, Werner said: “I'm happy to be here in north London. I see how good the club is, how good we are as a team.”
“Already in the stadium I feel that they are behind me and that they are very happy when I score. Spurs are a really good place to stay.”
Werner made an instant impact on his Spurs debut in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United when he set up Rodrigo Bentancur.
His first goal for the club came in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace before scoring his second in a 4-0 win at Aston Villa.
Werner's season was cut short with the 3-2 loss in the North London derby against Arsenal, as he left with a thigh injury.
However, he will get another chance to show his quality to the Spurs faithful when he returns for next season.
The 28-year-old is likely to be followed by other signings this summer, as Postecoglou looks to build on his impressive first year at the club.
