Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou responds to 'strange' award after beating Mikel Arteta, David Moyes and Emma Hayes
Tottenham manager Ange Postecouglou described the Coach of the Year award at the London Football Awards as “strange”.
The Australian pipped Arsenal's Mikel Arteta to the award despite joining the club in June and Spurs trailing the Gunners by 11 points in the Premier League table.
It also surpassed the double victory. Chelsea women's coach Emma Hayes and West Ham's David Moyes, who led their team to Europa Conference League glory last June.
Postecoglou has made a huge impression since arriving in north London, especially after losing their talismanic striker. Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on the eve of the Premier League season.
Tottenham won eight of their first ten league games, leading Postecoglou's team to top spot in October.
But the wheels fell off after a chaotic 4-1 defeat at home to Chelsea, sparking a five-match winless streak.
Spurs are still in the hunt for Champions League qualification and despite last weekend's 2-1 home defeat to Wolves, Postecoglou says his team has more to come.
“A bit strange, obviously it's an honour,” said the Tottenham boss after receiving the award.
“I haven't really made the impact I wanted to yet, but people have noticed what we've done so far as a football club, which is great.
“I think fans have enjoyed elements of our football so far and there is more to come.
“I've only been here seven or eight months and we still haven't achieved anywhere near what we want, so there's a lot of work to do. “I love the challenge ahead of us.”
Postecoglou turns his attention to Saturday's clash at home to crystal Palace hoping to bounce back from last weekend's loss.
