Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Brentford ace Ivan Toney in title fight Premier league qualification.
The Englishman's future is currently at stake at the Gtech Community Stadium as, despite entering the final year of his current contract, he has not decided to renew it.
The 28-year-old is reportedly keen to take the next step in his career, which is why he does not want to renew his contract. The Bees are reportedly keen to cash in on him this summer for fear of losing him for free at the end of next season.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United The clubs that have shown interest in signing him taking advantage of his current situation seem to have cooled their interest. Tottenham It is reported that They are also considering buying it and so they could have a clear path to closing this deal.
Toney to Tottenham
Now, speaking of talkSPORTMacAnthony has said that Richarlison is a disadvantageous player, so the Spurs should replace him by signing Toney.
The chairman further claims that if Tottenham buy the Brentford star, they would become a top three team in the Premier League and could even help the Lilywhites challenge for the league title.
MacAnthony said:
“The way Ange (Postecoglou) plays… if you could get rid of Richarlison, who is a striker who scores a goal in every five games, and put Toney in an Ange team, I think they would have finished comfortably in the top three last year. And I think that makes an Ange team in the top three, potentially challenging for the title in the last month of the season.”
Brentford reportedly want a fee of around £40 million let their star player go, meaning Tottenham will have to shell out a considerable amount of money to sign the Englishman this summer.
He is a proven Premier League player and is an England international, so it would be a huge coup for Tottenham if they sign him. However, it will be interesting to see if the Lilywhites ultimately manage to secure his signature in this transfer window to reinforce their front line.
