Tottenham Hotspur reportedly still 'interested' in signing Chelsea star Conor Gallagher this summer, according to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent transfer windows to strengthen their engine room, however, they have yet to secure his signature.
With the midfielder set to enter the final year of his current contract and the Blues reportedly open to cashing in on him to balance their books, it looked like the north London club were the favorites to sign him.
However, David Ornstein recently revealed that Aston Villa Now they have also joined the race because Unai Emery is a “big admirer” of him.
The journalist also claims that the Villans have already held initial talks with the west London club to find out the details of his signing and have been in talks with the player's representatives to convince him to join the club.
Gallagher to Tottenham
However, writing in x, Roman has reported that although Aston Villa has already entered the fray, Tottenham has not abandoned its hopes and remains interested in signing him.
The Italian also claims that Chelsea value their star similarly to Mason Mount, meaning Ange Postecoglou's side will have to spend more than £50m to buy him.
Romano wrote:
“Chelsea are willing to ask for a fee in excess of £50m for Conor Gallagher this summer. “After the deal with Mount last summer, Chelsea see Gallagher in a similar position with Aston Villa, Tottenham and a foreign club interested in signing him.”
Gallagher is a dynamic midfielder and has already demonstrated his qualities in the first division. He can make passes between the lines, has the ability to contribute to some important goals, can create opportunities for attackers and also works extremely hard out of possession.
Postecoglou likes to play in a high-pressure system and the England international possesses the attributes necessary to thrive in that style of football. Therefore, he would be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham if they were to acquire him.
However, it will be interesting to see if the north London club finally manages to secure his signature by defeating Aston Villa in this race.
