Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed that he plays with a broken bone, because he has not been able to take the time to recover.

The Tottenham star is a fan favorite in north London but has been plagued by injuries since arriving from Juventus in January 2022.

The Uruguayan proved an instant success when he swapped Bianconeri for Spurs along with Dejan Kulusevski.

His performances in the middle of the park propelled the Lilywhites back to the 2022/23 Champions League.

However, injuries have wreaked havoc on his tenure at Tottenham; Bentancur has missed a whopping 51 games for the club since he joined.

Most of that absence was due to a torn cruciate ligament that sidelined him for nine months.

So in his first start since returning in November, suffered torn ankle ligaments which he looked after until New Year's Eve.

Now Bentancur has admitted that he suffered a broken toe in training before Tottenham's 3-1 win over crystal Palace on March 2.

In statements to a Uruguayan media TeledocBentancur explained that his desperation to be available for Ange PostecoglouThe Spurs took him to play through the pain barrier.

“The truth is that now the ankle is fine, luckily the knee has recovered, nothing to talk about other than just a broken finger,” he explained about his current state of form.

“I broke the little toe on my left foot two or three weeks ago, but I'm still playing the same this season.

“I broke a phalanx and I would have had to stop for three or four weeks for it to heal but it wasn't possible.

“It was before the Crystal Palace game in London in training with a teammate, but it's almost there.

“I'm playing with my recovering toe but the truth is that once I warm up I forget.

“I didn't want to stop, so I'm fine and I feel good 100 percent.”

Bentancur played 63 minutes against Palace in the days after breaking his toe and has since featured in the 4-0 home win. Aston Villa as well as the 3-0 defeat against Fulham on March 16.

The 26-year-old hasn't rested during the international break either, making his 57th cap for his country on Saturday.

Bentancur was a second-half substitute in Uruguay's 1-1 draw against the Basque Country in Bilbao and traveled to France, where Marcelo Bielsa's team will face Ivory Coast on Tuesday.
