Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly sent scouts to take a closer look at Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori before making a possible attack this summer, according to the Italian outlet. TuttoSport.
After a promising campaign under Ange Postecoglou this season, the Lilywhites plan to strengthen the team next season transfer window to continue reconstruction.
It has been suggested that the north London club are looking to strengthen the forward line and engine room, but signing a new defender to strengthen the defensive line is also on Postecoglou's agenda. A few names have been linked with a move to the newly refurbished White Hart Lane and Calafiori is apparently on his radar too.
According to the report of tutto sportSpurs have expressed interest in signing the Bologna star and have sent scouts to closely observe the 21-year-old in action.
The report further claims that the Lilywhites' scouts were impressed with the youngster, so Tottenham could eventually make a concrete decision to buy him in the next window.
Calafiori to Tottenham
TuttoSport He also claims that Bologna could accept a fee of around £21m to sell their star man and the price will not be an issue for Postecoglou's side to secure his signature. However, the Italian media says that Bayer Leverkusen is also interested in signing him and, in addition, Juventus has identified Calafiori as its main objective to strengthen its defense.
It has also been reported that Calafiori is willing to stay in Serie A so Juventus would be his preferred destination. Spurs will therefore have to convince the defender to move to the newly refurbished White Hart Lane if they formalize their interest.
The 21-year-old, who stands 6ft 2ins tall, is a versatile player as he can play in both the centre-back and left-back positions. He is a left-footed defender and Postecoglou has no left-footed centre-back at his disposal other than Micky van de Ven.
So if Tottenham sign Calafiori, Postecoglou will be able to manage the Dutchman's playing time next season. With Tottenham set to qualify for Europe, adding depth to the squad is essential to achieving success in all competitions.
