Tottenham will face an unwanted story in the Premier League if something happens against Arsenal

Tottenham will be hoping to avoid another home defeat and an unwanted Premier League derby in Sunday's north London derby.

Defeat at Newcastle last time out has given added importance to this weekend's clash for Spurs, who are 10th in the table after three games.

However, if Ange Postecoglou's side hope to get back to winning ways immediately, they will have to break a rather peculiar own-goal trap.

That's because Tottenham have conceded an own goal in each of their last three Premier League meetings with Arsenal.

No team has ever conceded four own goals in consecutive games against the same opponent, an undesirable part of history that Spurs will want to avoid, especially against their arch rivals.

During their meeting in April, Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg inadvertently headed into his own goal from a corner to give the Gunners the lead on their way to a 3-2 win.

This came after Cristian Romero scored an own goal in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates last September.

Before that, former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris deflected Bukayo Saka's cross into his own net.

Curiously, all three of the own goals were a result of Saka's enterprising play on Arsenal's right flank.

All three unfortunate moments came at crucial times that allowed Arsenal to open the scoring.

Postecoglou will be aware that his side continue to give welcome advantages to their biggest rivals and that a repeat of past mistakes will be another tough challenge for Spurs to overcome.
