Villa manager Unai Emery is looking to bolster his backline ahead of Friday's transfer deadline and his versatility Liverpool Centre-back/full-back Gomez is on the list of options.

Any move is likely to depend on the future of Villa centre-back Diego Carlos, who is wanted by Fulham.

talkSPORT understands Gomez was close to completing a £45m move to Newcastle at the start of the window, but there is no indication at this stage that the Magpies, still hopeful Marc Guehi's signing for Crystal Palacewill re-examine their interest.

Calm down Eddie!

Nottingham Forest You will have to do it Eddie Nketiah His highest paid player to tempt him to leave Arsenal.

talkSPORT exclusively revealed last week that Forest were preparing a move for Nketiah and have now seen an initial bid of £25m rejected.

Nketiah- Valued at £50m at the start of the window – earns £120,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium and is unwilling to take a pay cut despite being an unused substitute in the Gunners' opening-day win over Wolves.

As well as Nketiah, Forest are in talks with Feyenoord to sign Mexico international Santiago Gimenez and a mystery third striker, so the City Ground is expected to be a hive of activity in the final two weeks of the window.

Brighton is very busy… and it's not over yet

Brighton's summer spending spree shows no signs of slowing down, thanks largely to Todd Boehly!

Ambitious Seagulls owner Tony Bloom has already splashed out more than £140million on players for new manager Fabian Hurzeler in a bid to mount another European challenge this season.

The Sussex outfit retain a strong interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley if they can reach an agreement with the Scottish champions over the £30million asking price.

Brighton have spent a lot of money this summer, including £40m on Leeds striker Georginio Rutter, and still have credit to show for it, thanks to Chelsea.

Brighton have also held advanced talks with Fenerbahce over signing Turkish left-back Ferdi Kadioglu.

The irony is that even if they do break the £200m barrier, the Seagulls will still have change from the £225m they have been paid. Chelsea for Moisés Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sánchez and manager Graham Potter in recent seasons.

Boehly is clearly taking note of what Bloom is up to, with Chelsea having hijacked Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's move from Leicester to Brighton and also showing interest in Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh ahead of his £33million move from Newcastle to the Amex.

Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein list all of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's signings from Ajax, including Lisandro Martinez, André Onana, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Antony

Another Chelsea exit?

It went unnoticed given The Raheem Sterling Furorbut midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has also been left out of the squad for Chelsea's opening Premier League game against the champions. Manchester City.

Asked about the £20million man's absence, new manager Enzo Maresca referenced Chukwuemeka's injury from last season.

That seems a somewhat odd interpretation from Maresca, given the former England Under-19 international played almost eight times as many minutes as Romeo Lavia and just 302 minutes fewer than Christopher Nkunku, both of whom started in the 2-0 home defeat to City.

Wesley Fofana was unable to play a single minute in the Premier League due to a serious knee injury, but was also chosen as the centre-half of Maresca's defence against the champions.

Chukwuemeka's signing pre-dated the arrival of joint sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart and the former Aston Villa man was regarded as one of England's brightest young talents when Chelsea won the race for his signature, so much so that he has a £40m release clause in his contract.

Barcelona are long-time admirers of Chukwuemeka and are keen to sign him, as are other Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace and across Europe.
