However, hearing the local boy even mention talks of a possible extension will give his supporters hope that the Scouse star could stay.

talking to sky sports In an interview, he said: “I've been at the club for 20 years and I've signed four or five contract extensions… and none of them have been revealed publicly.

“This one won't be either.”

Although his future is currently unknown, the England international admitted he has enjoyed playing under new boss Arne Slot since taking Jurgen Klopp's place on the Liverpool bench.

The defender said: “From the first time I met him, I knew I was going to enjoy playing with him and being part of this.

“I feel like I'm going to get better and better.

Slot has taken Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and to the renewed Champions League table in his first season in charge.

He had big shoes to fill after replacing Klopp, who resigned as Reds boss after eight years at the end of last campaign.

Alexander-Arnold has played 18 games this season and has managed four assists in all competitions during that time.

He suffered a hamstring injury in November but has since recovered, proving to be a key member of Liverpool's first team, as well as his leadership role as the club's vice-captain.

Two other Slot stars, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, will also be out of contract at the end of the season and their future is also unclear.

All three players won the Champions League under Klopp in 2019, as well as the Premier League in 2020.

Liverpool face Fulham at home on Saturday afternoon as they look to extend their lead at the top of the league after their Merseyside derby against Everton was postponed last week.
