'Trust the players': Mikel Arteta all but rules out signing a new Arsenal striker this summer

Mikel Arteta has made reference to Arsenal No sign a striker this summer.

The Gunners won their opening Premier League clash against Wolves 2-0 on Saturday, with Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka Shooting them to victory.

But despite Havertz, who led the attack on Saturday afternoon, scoring, many fans still believe Arsenal need to sign a pure striker.

However, Arteta says he is happy to rely on the attacking options his side currently have.

Speaking to talkSPORT after Wolves' win, he said: “I have faith in (Havertz), we have faith in (Gabriel Jesus).

“Leandro Trossard has played in that position.

“We have different qualities and the best we can do is trust the players we have and try to improve them.

“They are very good and very willing, and that is what we focus on.”

Last season, Arsenal's goals were shared between their players, with winger Saka their top scorer with 22 goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Manchester City – who won the title again last season – boasts the striker Erling Haalandwho scored 27 goals in the league alone.

So far this summer, the Gunners have brought in Riccardo Calafiolri in defence and have also signed the goalkeeper. David Raya on a permanent contract with Brentford.

Meanwhile, Royal Society Midfielder Mikel Merino was left out of the squad for Sunday's match against Rayo Vallecano while holding talks with the Gunners.

But when asked if he expects the Gunners to be active now until the end of the transfer window, Arteta appeared to suggest his side were in no rush to do any deals.

He said, “Well, there is time, there are options.

“And when the market is ready in this league, we'll be ready.”

Arsenal will face Aston Villa away from home in the Premier League next Saturday.

They then face Brighton before a crucial double-header against Tottenham and Manchester City.
