Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández deactivated their social media accounts after the crushing defeat against Liverpool.

The Chelsea duo were part of the Chelsea team that fell to a 4-1 defeat to the Reds Midweek, in a one-sided affair saw Jurgen Klopp's side record an impressive 28 shots against the Blues.

While few Chelsea players managed to cover themselves in glory, it was the midfield duo Caicedo and Fernández who took the most shots.

The pair were massively swarmed in the middle of the park and, after teaming up for £115million and £105million respectively, both stars have a pretty hefty target on their backs.

While it is not clear why Caicedo and Fernández deleted their accounts on X, it has been suggested that a torrent of abuse on social media could be the reason.

Caicedo also had the misfortune of being named as Ally McCoist's 'flop of the season' so far, beating Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana to the title.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Rangers legend said: “Poor guy. I have to say I've seen him (Caicedo) a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford (2-1 loss to Manchester United).

“Him and Enzo Fernandez, both, to be honest, a quarter of a billion pounds… Caicedo would surely get my vote before Onana.

“Onana is nothing like the signing they thought he would be, but I don't give him the failure of the season, I think it's tough.

“I decided on Caicedo.”

While the pair will have the chance to put things right against Liverpool later this month in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, there is still work to be done in the Premier League.

Chelsea are currently in tenth position, well below the European places that Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to secure before the end of the campaign.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson tells Chelsea they need to sell £100m of local talent by June or they will fall into FFP

They will hope to move up the table quickly, starting against Wolves on Sunday.
