Liverpool took a giant step towards their second Premier League title when they defeated rival Manchester City.
The 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, put Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the table and a gigantic 11-point lead over City.
In his first season under command Arne Slot, Liverpool They have not needed time to adapt to the new era after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.
With 11 wins from 13 in the Premier League and 18 wins from 20 games in all competitions, Liverpool have undoubtedly been the best team in the country this season and possibly in all of Europe.
Salah scored his 11th goal of the Premier League season, while no team has conceded fewer than Liverpool's eight so far.
Speaking after the win against Man City, the NBC pundit and former Wimbledon Midfielder Robbie Earle highlighted two players who have taken big steps forward with Slot.
The two players were Ryan Gravenberg and Trent Alexander-Arnoldthe former is especially described as a “new” player having initially struggled last season before becoming an impressive regular player under Slot.
“When Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp, I think we all felt they would be in the top six, maybe fourth or fifth,” Earle said.
“And that this guy is going to take some time to move forward with this (Klopp). But his individual player management, Gravenberch, is like a new discovery. Trent Alexander-Arnold is a much better defender under Arne Slot than he was under Klopp.
“We have seen Curtis Jones coming into the team, we have seen (Darwin) Núñez take on more responsibilities, Virgil Van Dijk He has returned to his best level. Mo Salah, despite the contract (problems), continues to score goals.
“There are so many good things this coach has done. This is the easiest win against Man City of all time. Jurgen Klopp. At the moment, they are the best balanced team in the Premier League.
“In terms of both sides of the pitch, there is no one better than this Liverpool team.”
Meanwhile, NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe highlighted Liverpool's midfield as a whole, again singling out Gravenberch as a missing link in Slot's team's continued emergence.
“I go back to Arne Slot's words before the game. (He said) they would have to be perfect in all areas, they would have to dominate in all areas. That's what we just saw.
“In the first half, dominant, front foot, high pressure. They created chances with their football and scored a goal. Second half more defensive, strong defensively, knowing that they would have opportunities on the counterattack and that is what they did.
“Mo Salah should have scored earlier. And the most important part of the team's performance today was what I think has been the last piece in terms of reaching an exceptional level: the midfield.
“We know that the forwards have scored many goals, defensively very well from day one, but the midfield has taken a while to recover. But… Dominic Szoboszlai, the engine that guy has. I thought he was phenomenal in the game, as was Gravenberch. “The midfield is now becoming another very strong part of this team.”
Nine points ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea In second and third place, Liverpool last had a bigger lead at the top of the table on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season when they won the title by 18 points.
