- Aston Villa U18 Vs. Tottenham Hotspur U18 – Sat, Sep 14th 2024, 12:00
A brace from Bradley Burrowes downed Tottenham Hotspur and saw Aston Villa move top of the Under-18 Premier League South.
The flying winger picked out the bottom corner with a powerful drive to open the scoring after 17 minutes.
And he inflicted further damage on Spurs with ten minutes to play when he raced clear of the defence and slotted his second of the afternoon.
The victory takes Villa two points clear at the top after three wins from their opening four league matches.
The game was only a couple of minutes old when Elijah Briscoe turned the ball into the net at the end of a flowing move, only for the striker to throw his arms up in frustration when he spotted the linesman flagging for offside.
It wasn’t long before Jimmy Shan’s side did hit the front, netting the opening goal after 17 minutes.
Cole Brannigan carried the ball across the pitch before finding Burrowes, who cut inside on his left foot and arrowed a shot into the far corner.
There was little else to report from a tight first half, but Spurs lifted their game after the restart and fired efforts over via Ellis Lehane and Tynan Thompson.
Sam Lewis made a strong save from Luca Williams-Barnett’s drive and George Feeney before Lehane curled an effort onto the post.
The home side made their opponents pay for their missed chances when Burrowes doubled his tally with ten minutes remaining, skipping clear of the defence and sliding a shot past Samual Archer.
Brannigan and Burrowes linked up again as Villa looked to pull further clear, with the latter rounding the ‘keeper and seeing his shot cleared by a covering defender.
