Aston Villa manager Unai Emery had a one-word answer when asked what went wrong in his team's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Goals from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernández and Cole Palmer were extended villas winless streak to eight in all competitions.
It was an unusually weak display from Villa, who struggled to break through. ChelseaThe press.
When asked why his team wasn't at the races, Emery was direct: “Chelsea.”
When asked to elaborate, Emery repeated the same thing.
However, the Spaniard was more willing to elaborate when asked about his team's offensive weaknesses of late.
The blank goal against Chelsea marked the fourth time in Villa's last five games that they had failed to score.
“They were pretty much in the high press, going man to man,” Emery said.
“We knew before, that was an option and we had our chances. We didn't score, but I'm worried if we don't create moments. Today we created it.
“Of course, in 90 minutes here, if you don't score, they more or less control the game. They had a complete, strong and comfortable feeling, they could score like they did.
“We had to accept it because it's Chelsea and we have to move forward, trying to keep the balance.”
Aside from the worrying result, which left Villa 12th in the table, Emery may have a major injury problem on his hands.
Superstar goalkeeper Emi Martínez was taken off at half-time and replaced by Robin Olsen.
Martínez required medical attention towards the end of the first half, as Villa's physiotherapists looked to work on his hand.
Emery confirmed that this was indeed the injury that Martínez suffered, but could not offer many more details.
“I don't know exactly now,” Emery said.
“It's his hand. We have to control him.”
Emery will not have to wait long for another chance to break Villa's winless streak when the Midlands side host Brentford on Wednesday.
The Bees, who are eighth in the table, go into the clash on top after a 4-1 thrashing of Leicester City on Saturday.
