VfB Stuttgart sporting director denies Bayern Munich interest in Chris Führich

Speaking to Sky Germany, VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has denied any interest from Bayern Munich towards winger Chris Führich.

When asked about interests from Bayern, Wohlgemuth said: “It doesn’t surprise me that our players are also of interest to top clubs. But in the case of Führich, neither the player nor the club contacted me, so I cannot comment further on this rumour.”

However, despite this front, it seems that Stuttgart are expecting that Führich will leave the club in the summer. The club already have a replacement lined up in 1.FC Köln’s Justin Diehl who is close to joining on a free transfer. Both Bild and TZMunchen report on Bayern’s interest in Führich.

Max Eberl is said to be a fan of the 26-year-old who has a release clause of €23.5m. Interest in Führich also goes back to Eberl’s predecessor Hasan Salihamidžić with the club also considering signing the winger before moving for Granada’s Bryan Zaragoza who was sporting director Christoph Freund’s preferred candidate.

After two average seasons at Stuttgart, the former Borussia Dortmund youth player is having his break-out season and his seven goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga saw him play himself into the German national team where he impressed against France and the Netherlands, albeit in cameos.

It seems as if Stuttgart will end up in the common occurrence where an overperforming team will be picked apart by bigger teams in the summer, despite the likelihood of Champions League football next season.
