According to Dennis Bayer, VfL Bochum are set to sign Ajax defender Jakov Medić.
It had previously been reported that many Bundelsiga clubs were looking to lure Brazilian left-back Bernardo away from Bochum this summer, with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Union Berlin the two sides leading the race.
However, it has since become clear that Berlin is the most likely destination for the former Brighton & Hove Albion defender this summer.
Therefore, due to the possibility of losing Bernardo in the coming days, Bochum have been searching for a replacement.
It is understood that Ajax’s Medić is the most likely successor to Bernardo, with the 25-year-old also stating his interest in moving to the Vonovia Ruhrstadion and returning to Germany.
Talks between all parties have begun, with Bochum looking to offer the defender a four-year contract, valid until 2028.
Since joining Ajax from St. Pauli last summer, Medić has failed to become a regular feature in the Netherlands, registering just nine appearances and one goal for the Dutch side.
