Federico Chiesa has been speaking at an airport as he prepares to fly to the UK to undergo his medical after Liverpool agreed a £10.9m contract with Juventus for his signature.

The Reds were very calm in the transfer market this summer, but have now accelerated their efforts to strengthen the team in the final days of this window.

Having recently signed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, Liverpool are now on the verge of signing a new attacker after reaching an agreement with Juventus for Chiesa.

Transfer Expert Fabricius Romano was one of the first to break the news that Liverpool have agreed to pay an initial fee of £10.9m (€13m) for the Italian winger, with other unspecified add-ons included in the deal.

Romano went on to say that Chiesa will sign a four-year contract at Anfield. He wrote on unknown:

“Federico Chiesa is going to Liverpool, here we go! Deal done for €13m initial fee with add-ons. Four-year contract for Chiesa as a new Liverpool player, to be signed today. Chiesa accepted Liverpool immediately. Deal DONE. Exclusive story confirmed.”

Chiesa has been spotted at the airport on his way to the UK to undergo a medical and finalise the details of his move to Liverpool. The 26-year-old told reporters he was looking forward to being “very happy” to join Liverpool and thanked Juventus fans for their support.

Chiesa was out of Thiago Motta's plan so the Bianconeri were willing to let him go and the Reds made the most of that situation by signing him on a cut-price deal.

From the church to Liverpool

The Italian will join a Liverpool attack that already features Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah His acquisition will therefore further strengthen the Reds' forward line.

The Italian is comfortable playing in any forward position and has already demonstrated his qualities for Juventus and the Italian national team. He is quick, has good technique, can dribble past opposing defenders in tight areas and also works very hard out of possession.

He therefore possesses the attributes needed to play a key role in Arne Slot's system. However, although he has struggled of late, a change of scenery could help him rejuvenate his career. It will therefore be interesting to see how the 26-year-old plays in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, after finalising the signing of Chiesa, it remains to be seen how many new additions the Merseyside club will make in the coming days to bolster their attacking department.

Following back-to-back wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford, Liverpool will face Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League before the international break.
