Ian Maatsen hailed Villa Park as “a special place” after Aston Villa came from behind to triumph 3-1 over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The home support were sent wild as Unai Emery’s side staged a remarkable comeback on another memorable afternoon in B6.

Trailing to Matheus Cunha’s first-half opener, Ollie Watkins levelled in the 73rd minute before the home faithful were sent into raptures once again thanks to Ezri Konsa’s late strike from close range.

Jhon Durán then put the gloss on all three points in injury time to send Villa fans home happy.

Maatsen helped turn the tide of the Premier League clash following his introduction as a half-time substitute, and the Dutchman was delighted when reflecting on the victory post-match.

“Very pleased,” he told VillaTV.

“It was unlucky we couldn’t keep a clean sheet but this stadium is amazing, to create that atmosphere that we’re going to come back any time.

“They gave us and we kept believing.

“And we scored three amazing goals, so really pleased with the performance.”

The Villans have now won five of their opening six matches in all competitions so far this season.

And, following last Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Everton, it was the second time in the space of a week Emery’s side have come from behind to claim victory at Villa Park.

Reflecting on this, Maatsen added: “It shows that Villa Park is a special place.

“We want it to be so any opponent who comes here, they have to feel scared.

“We did that here again, very pleased.”
