Villarreal have given up hope of signing the Italian international Nicholas Zaniolo. The 25-year-old was in talks with Submarinu Giallu, but decided to prioritize a move to his native Italy.
According to Matteo Moretto, Villarreal have negotiated with Galatasaray for Zaniolo, who would have been an interesting addition to Marcelino Garcia Toral's attack. However barely Atalanta appeared on the scene, Zaniolo decided to keep to move to the champions of the Europa League. Fiorentina have also been linked with him, but Zaniolo is keen to go to Bergamo, and Villarreal ended their interest as a result.
Marcelino tends to operate with a front two, one of which will be a little more withdrawn. It may be Gerard Moreno, but he often used Goncalo Guedes even in the second half of last season, and he returned from his loan to Wolves. No doubt Marcelino wants another alternative to Moreno and Alexander Sorloth up front.
