Manchester United target Joshua Zirkzee once felt the full force of an angry Vincent Kompany in a post-match dressing down.
The Dutch star was playing in Bayern Munich When he joined the Belgian team Anderlecht on loan for the 2021/22 season.
Managed by Kompany, the striker enjoyed a wonderful campaign in which he scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists to help the club reach third place in the Belgian Pro League.
But despite being one of their star men, Zirkzee felt the wrath of the Manchester City legend after a clash with Sint-Truiden in October 2021.
After leading 2-1, Anderlecht conceded a 94th-minute goal that denied them victory, prompting furious interaction with their team after the match.
“Listen, don't get me wrong. There's a part of me that you haven't seen in any of the lads,” the Manchester City legend said.
“Number one, Wes, whether we play with three, four, five or six, it’s my damn decision and I take responsibility if we lose and we don’t play well.
“Second thing: Zirk, (this is the) last time I talk about your attitude. You seem… I don't expect you to smile, but I want to see a perfect attitude.
“You weren’t good, just like everyone else. I could have eliminated everyone from Hendrik to the last one. Without anyone complaining.
“We deserve to lose today. We can be damn happy with a point.
“For 95 minutes we have wasted our time. You have wasted your time, I have wasted mine.
“It would have been better to send the U-21s.”
Although Kompany has taken charge of Bayern Munich, Zirkzee is believed to be… about to sign for Manchester United.
The Red Devils are close to reaching an agreement with the Bologna star, who has a £34m release clause in his contract.
