“There is no change at the moment,” Van Dijk said.

Liverpool have failed to make any signings during the summer transfer window under new manager Arne Slot, but Van Dijk is hoping reinforcements will arrive in due course.

“Obviously I think we should make some signings depending on how long the season is, but I think they are working behind the scenes and I fully believe and trust the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible team to compete in all the competitions we are in,” he said.

“That's the main thing I'm focusing on, just having the confidence and we'll see what happens. I think they're working really hard behind the scenes, we'll see how it all plays out.”

Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a world record fee of £75 million.

The Reds captain made a flying start to his debut that same month, featuring in the FA Cup third round and scoring the winner against their rivals. Everton.

His goal made him the first player since Bill White in 1901 to score on his debut in the Merseyside derby.

This goal helped cement him as a fan favourite and he has been a Liverpool stalwart ever since, winning the Champions League and Premier League.

Van Dijk was handed the captain's armband following the departure of Jordan Henderson in 2023.

Liverpool face their first Premier League game of the season against Ipswich on Saturday.

Slot was satisfied to have made it through the friendly without any injuries to worry about.

Slot said: “It is not just an important week but an important year ahead.

“We have to improve day by day and I think we saw a lot of good things in both games today, but I can make a long list of things we have to improve, which is completely normal.

“Some of them, with certain new ideas that we have, have only been doing it for a week, so they have to adapt and they have to adapt to each other. It’s normal that we are far from perfect. But even being far from perfect we can score four, which is good.”
