Their first game back saw them return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory away at Fulham. After Morgan Rogers had pulled Villa level, Emi Martínez made a crucial penalty stop with the score tied at 1-1, before an Ollie Walkins header and a Lucas Digne-enforced own-goal sealed the points in the second half.

Villa followed victory up at Fulham with another memorable Champions League victory at home to Bologna, thanks to goals from Durán and John McGinn, before picking up another point at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League, Ross Barkley notching his first goal since returning to the club.
October drew to a close for the club on Wednesday evening, with a first defeat in 12 matches at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. Durán was again on target for the Villans to end the month as the club’s top goalscorer with three, taking his tally for the season to eight.
