Bayer Leverkusen moved five points clear of Bayern Munich with an emphatic 3-0 win against their Bundesliga title challenges in the Topspiel on Saturday.
Josip Stanišić, on loan from Bayern, opened the scoring for Leverkusen against his parent club before Álex Grimaldo doubled his side’s lead just after the break. Bayer Leverkusen continued to dominate and Jeremie Frimpong put the icing on the cake, putting the ball in an empty net with Manuel Neuer up at the other end following a corner.

In control from the first minute, Bayer Leverkusen never looked like losing this one, and it could well have been four or five-nil to Die Werkself.
That win means Leverkusen are now in the driving seat to lift their first ever Bundesliga title. It’s a statement performance as Xabi Alonso’s side remain unbeaten this season.
Leverkusen’s place at the top of the Bundesliga is truly deserved, and it’s not only a testament to the work that Alonso has put in, but their recruitment has been nothing short of exceptional this season.
