Real Madrid's defense of their Champions League title has been far from straightforward in the early stages of the competition. They narrowly beat Stuttgart, before losing to Lille in MD2 of the league stage. In their third game against Borussia Dortmund, they are on track again.

The opening goal came on the half hour mark, and was scored by Dutch striker Donyell Malen.
